I came to Canada in 2017. I was sponsored by my mother who came here years back as a Caregiver. As a new immigrant, I was excited to work to help my family.  I tried different survival jobs. The last job I had was at Cascade Casino as a banquet server.  Due to the pandemic, my employer reduced my work hours from full time to part time.  It was hard as I was expected to contribute to my family’s expenses. I decided to look for other opportunities that could help me find a permanent job. Then, someone referred me to check a list of programs that I could take and I grabbed the opportunity to register for the PBLMT Structured Cabling program.  Luckily, I was one of the selected applicants.

I am so grateful to Langley Community Services as they referred me to WorkBC Centre Whalley. I visited the centre and the staff was very friendly and helpful.  They guided me on how I could proceed and start the program step by step, and supported me financially to complete my training.  They provided me with all the tools which were required during my practicum along with funds for clothing and transportation.  They also provided me with living support throughout my training.  They also supported me to start my job at Paladin Security right after Graduation.

I am currently working full time as a Trainee at Paladin Security.  I am immensely thankful to my Case Manager (Maria Carandang) at WorkBC Centre Whalley for her sincere efforts and dedication. WorkBC staff is very warm and simply amazing, and they take care of clients’ needs efficiently.
