Job Search with WorkBC

In October 2022, my husband and I joined our youngest daughter who moved from Winnipeg, MB to Surrey, BC back in 2018. I started my job search a couple of months later and had been sending applications online but unfortunately, was not getting favorable results. During this time, I also applied for EI hoping to get some financial assistance while still unemployed but was declined as I was not laid off but quit work in Winnipeg.

In June 2023, someone from the office of WorkBC Centre Whalley called me up asking if I have already found a job and offered me their employment assistance services. He immediately booked me for an appointment and I eventually met Ludmila, Pia and finally Fernando who was assigned as my job coach. The assistance provided was very helpful as they reviewed and revised my resume and cover letter and offered free training.  My job coach even taught me how to customize my resume to match the requirements of the job postings I am applying for. He was also sending company job links and job fair schedules every now and then and constantly following up with me.

I feel so blessed that I finally got a job, and it is my first day today, September 25th.  I am so happy to be part of a team of warm, welcoming, and caring people and I look forward to working with all of them.

The support I got from WorkBC Centre Whalley is indeed exceptional and impressive. I am and will always be truly grateful to them. I wish them all the best and hope that they will continue to be passionate and committed to helping and serving individuals and communities.
