A New Beginning in Canada

When I first arrived in Canada, navigating the job market as a newcomer felt overwhelming. I didn’t know how to present myself to Canadian employers, what was expected in interviews, or even how to handle the everyday practicalities of settling into a new country while job searching.

WorkBC Centre Whalley gave me a whole team in my corner. My case manager, kept me on track and made sure I had a clear plan throughout the process. My job search coach, gave me steady encouragement and helped me approach the search with real strategy and confidence. 

My facilitator worked with me on my resume and interview skills, giving me practical advice that made me feel genuinely prepared walking into interviews. And the basic life skills training workshop helped me adjust to life in Canada in ways that made the whole journey feel more manageable.

After about 3-6 months of working with this team, I received a job offer in customer service. I’m sincerely grateful to WorkBC Centre Whalley team for all their support, and to everyone else at WorkBC who works so hard behind the scenes to help newcomers like me succeed. 

I’d encourage anyone new to Canada to take full advantage of what WorkBC offers; the guidance and encouragement truly made all the difference in my job search journey.
