Hanah's Journey towards Finding a Job she loves!

Finding a Job you Love

I was unemployed when I came to WorkBC Centre Whalley for assistance. I had gotten a degree outside of Canada, but it was not enough to help me get a job. I worked at low-pay admin jobs until I became pregnant with my second child and went on maternity leave. I became a stay-at-home Mom for 4 years due to not having a direction of a career. My degree was not recognized by companies in Canada. I applied everywhere without any success or even an offer for an interview.

Someone recommended WorkBC so I attended a resumé-building workshop and that is when I got inspired! When I attended the workshop, the facilitator said that he loves his job so much that from the close of his work week on Friday, he’s already looking forward to returning to work the following Monday! I wanted to love my job the way he did so decided to sign up for a career-search workshop that would help me find the right career for me!

WorkBC helped from the very beginning of my quest—from helping me find a career that I love, to helping me build my resumé, to providing funds for training, to preparing me for job interviews that helped me get a job.

I am currently working full-time as a therapist for Interior Health. I am so thankful that, today, I can say like that workshop facilitator I met during my first contact with WorkBC that I truly love my job!

I’m very thankful to my case manager, Maria Carandang, who supported me all the way—especially in helping me get access to funds to finance my training. I would not be where I am today without her belief and confidence that it would be possible for me to qualify for this kind of support. Without WorkBC’s financial support, I don’t know how I would have been able to afford to pay for training.
