Cleaning-Up My Anxiety
When I was unemployed, I found the job application process very difficult due to my learning disability, which affects my reading and writing skills. Online applications and forms were especially challenging, and I often found job application apps less accessible than job board websites. I also experienced anxiety around interviews and the overall process, which impacted my confidence.
A family member encouraged me to visit the WorkBC Centre Whalley for support. There, my Case Manager took the time to understand my situation and helped me with my resume, cover letters, and application forms. We also practiced interview skills together, which helped me feel more prepared and confident.
After I received a job offer, my Case Manager continued to support me through the onboarding process, including completing employment and union forms, as well as reviewing training materials. I was able to use the Resource Room and get help with each step along the way.
I am now employed as a light-duty cleaner with flexible hours. I have always wanted to work in housekeeping within the healthcare field, and this position provides a great work-life balance.
I am truly grateful for the support I received from the WorkBC Centre Whalley and would encourage others to use WorkBC services to build job readiness.
Today, I feel less anxious, and that is a meaningful success for me. I also feel more confident asking for help when I need it.
