A Pathway to Career Success
My experience with WorkBC Centre Whalley has been rewarding and meaningful. They provided valuable resources, guidance, and support that helped me secure employment and continue moving toward my career goals.
Before connecting with them, I was struggling to find employment and was not being shortlisted for positions despite actively applying. Looking back, it was because my resume was not aligned with current ATS (Applicant Tracking System) requirements, which limited my opportunities for interviews.
Throughout my time with WorkBC I received support through the Wage Subsidy Program, job coaching, career counselling, workshops, and funding for work-related training and required PPE. Through the Wage Subsidy Program and support from my job coach. The workshops I attended also helped me improve my resume, job search strategies, and interview skills, while also allowing me to learn from others facing similar challenges.
I secured employment in January 2025 and remained in that role until May 2026. After that previous role ended, I successfully secured a new job. But, I still plan to continue building my career through additional certifications and training that align with my long-term professional goals.
My advice to others is to view WorkBC as a valuable resource that can help you move closer to your employment goals, rather than expecting them to find a job for you. The more clearly you understand your career objectives and communicate your needs to your case manager, the better they can connect you with the right resources and support.
Being proactive, open to feedback, and willing to take advantage of the services available can make a significant difference in achieving a successful outcome!
