Checking the Numbers on Uncertainty
After being laid off, I felt lost and uncertain about my future. For a while, I struggled with stress and didn’t know where to begin my career path. A friend recommended that I visited WorkBC Centre Whalley for support, and that decision made a big difference in my journey.
When I met with my employment counsellor at WorkBC Centre Whalley, they welcomed me with kindness and professionalism. From the beginning, they made me feel comfortable and supported. My employment counsellor and the WorkBC Centre Whalley team provided me with many practical solutions, including helping me update and improve my resume, teaching me how to search for job opportunities more effectively, and showing me how to prepare for interviews with more confidence.
My employment counsellor also referred me to a career planning workshop, which helped me better understand my strengths, interests, and the types of jobs that would be a better fit for me. The workshop gave me a clearer sense of direction and helped me think more confidently about my next steps.
Also, with my employment counsellor’s support and guidance, I completed a bookkeeper program in Academy of Learning and received a certificate. I gradually regained my confidence and felt more prepared to move forward in my career. Luckily enough, I found a job as a junior accountant right after I completed my course.
I am very grateful to my employment counsellor and the WorkBC Centre Whalley team for helping me during a difficult time and for giving me the tools and encouragement I needed to keep going.
