Endless Possibilities for Growth at Any Age

Health Care

Hello, I’m Maricar! I used to work as a Health Care Aide before joining WorkBC. However, I needed to take a medical leave due to physical health issues. My doctor advised me to consider changing jobs to one that didn’t involve excessive physical strain on my shoulders.

Before becoming a client of WorkBC Centre Whalley, I faced significant challenges in securing employment that didn't require heavy lifting, primarily due to my lack of qualifications for desired roles like Health Unit Coordinator in the medical sector. Specific training or education is typically required for such positions.

Therefore, after a period of unemployment due to my physical limitations, I turned to WorkBC for career planning guidance. With eight years of experience as a health care aide, I aimed to upgrade my skills and possibly continue in the health care industry, but I wasn’t sure where to start.

WorkBC Centre Whalley provided me with personalized career counseling sessions with trained professionals who helped assess my skills and explore potential career paths. Additionally, they also funded my school training to become a Health Unit Coordinator.

Today, I am employed full-time as a Health Unit Coordinator at BC Cancer Agency. My experience with WorkBC as a client was incredibly positive. Throughout my journey, I felt supported by WorkBC’s resources and my case manager. I am also grateful for the assistance that enabled me to successfully navigate the job market and transition into my new role. Securing funding for skills training aligned with my career goals was pivotal.

I once felt that my career options were limited to my current path, but returning to school showed me endless possibilities for growth at any age. Don't lose hope. Keep exploring new paths, and you'll find your way forward.

I am thankful to WorkBC Centre Whalley for their dedicated help in supporting individuals like me to succeed. To me, success now means prioritizing my health and maintaining a healthy work-life balance. I wholeheartedly recommend WorkBC Employment Services to anyone seeking career guidance and support.
