Chasing Dreams amid Shadows

New Immigrant to Canada

I am Raj, an Indian immigrant who recently moved to Canada as a Permanent Resident at the end of April 2023. With 17 years of experience in the safety field and a master's degree in industrial safety engineering, my transition to the Canadian job market proved to be more challenging than anticipated.

Feeling disheartened and uncertain about my future, I discovered WorkBC employment services online and scheduled a meeting with Hueda at WorkBC Centre Whalley, my assigned case manager, on May 19th. Her kindness and encouragement were a significant morale boost during a time when I felt overwhelmed. Hueda enrolled me in the Job Search Workshop and Career Planning program, providing invaluable insights into the Canadian job market, career planning strategies, and effective job search techniques.

With new found clarity and determination, I decided to pursue a career in construction. All thanks to WorkBC's assistance, I successfully completed my Construction Safety Officer and Occupational First Aid Level 2 Certificate. Engaging in their effective job search methods, I am now proud to be a Project Safety coordinator at Ledcor, one of North America's premier construction companies.

This transformative journey has filled me with courage and optimism about my life and career in Canada. I express my heartfelt gratitude to Hueda and the entire WorkBC team for their unwavering support, both mentally and financially, as I worked towards my goals in a new country. Hueda's professionalism and care were instrumental in my success, and I sincerely hope that Work BC's impactful services continue to benefit new immigrants like myself. I wish the entire WorkBC Centre Whalley team continued success in assisting newcomers on their paths to success.
